Screenplay Development (Established Talent)

Run by Screen Ireland / Fís Éireann

Screen Ireland's development loan lets an Irish writer who already has a produced feature or TV drama credit spend time on a new film script with an approved script editor. It suits experienced screenwriters who have not yet attached a producer. The last 2026 round closes at 1 p.m. on October 30.

Round deadline Oct 30, 2026 (closes in 10 days)

Who can apply
Irish writers who already hold a writing credit on a produced fiction feature or TV drama (animated series count; shorts, adverts and documentaries do not). Writer-director teams qualify when one writer holds a credit. When several writers apply, each must be an Irish citizen or live in the Republic. No producer may be attached yet. Films must be mainly in English, Irish or both.
Prizes
Up to EUR 15,000 for a single writer or EUR 20,000 for a team, to pay for work with a script editor Screen Ireland approves.

What to send

Length
Either a one-page synopsis plus a treatment of at least 10 pages, or a 2 to 3 page synopsis plus 20 to 30 pages of script
Also asked for
A logline, brief character notes, writer and director notes on why the story matters and its main development problems, and proof that you hold the rights. Adaptations and true stories need a filmic treatment or a script sample, not a plot summary. Apply on the Screen Ireland portal before 1pm.

Need your pages in standard screenplay format first? The free screenplay formatter lays them out and saves a PDF.

What it gives besides money

Paid time with a script editor; Screen Ireland notes that development money does not guarantee production funding.
